“Rajat Jayanti Park” Realized with Active Participation of Srinagar Municipal Corporation
A Place Once Avoided Now Attracts Crowds.

1. From Garbage Dump to Attractive Park
Near the old night shelter on Nursery Road, where large amounts of garbage were once scattered, a beautiful “Rajat Jayanti Park” has now been developed. This initiative is the result of the dedicated efforts of District Magistrate Swati S. Bhadauria and the Srinagar Municipal Corporation. It has not only improved the appearance of the area but also relieved nearby residents from the long-standing problem of filth and foul odor.

2. Action Began After District Magistrate’s Inspection
The work started after an inspection by the District Magistrate. Taking the widespread garbage seriously, she directed the Municipal Corporation to immediately clear the waste and redevelop the site under the “Waste to Wonder” theme. Acting promptly, the corporation launched a special drive and removed years-old accumulated waste, shifting it to the trenching ground in Girigaon.

3. 18,000 Tons of Waste Removed
Under this campaign, around 18,000 tons of garbage were cleared. The land was then leveled, and a planned development process began. Based on the “Waste to Wonder” theme, the site was transformed into “Rajat Jayanti Park,” which has now become an attractive and useful space for city residents.

4. Modern Facilities Developed in the Park
During development, swings and play equipment for children were installed. Well-structured walking pathways were created. Additionally, benches, adequate street lighting, parking for around 50–60 vehicles, greenery, and a clean environment have been provided, making the park even more special.

5. Now a Favorite Spot for People
Earlier, people hesitated even to pass through this area. Now, it witnesses a good footfall in the mornings and evenings. Local residents come here for walks, children play, and families spend quality time.

6. Mayor Calls It a Major Achievement
Mayor Aarti Bhandari said that earlier, this place was a major waste disposal problem, causing inconvenience to residents. The Municipal Corporation took it as a challenge and removed years of accumulated waste, relocating it to the trenching ground in Girigaon. After that, the site was systematically developed into a well-organized and attractive park.
She added that efforts will continue to transform neglected areas of the city into useful public spaces.

7. Positive Message of “Waste to Wonder” Concept
The District Magistrate stated that this initiative is not limited to beautification but also sets an example of positive impact on public life. The park conveys a clear message that old and unusable materials can be creatively repurposed into something valuable and beneficial. The “Waste to Wonder” concept reflects this idea.

8. Promoting Cleanliness and Recycling
The District Magistrate emphasized that such initiatives not only promote cleanliness but also inspire people toward resource reuse. She acknowledged the contribution of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Srinagar, noting that their coordination and monitoring played an important role in the smooth execution of the project.
