Rahul’s Achievement
Rahul from Kevars village in Pauri becomes self-reliant through the Chief Minister Self-Employment Scheme: Creating village employment through dairy farming, earning thousands every month with 24 cows.
1. Steps toward self-reliance through the scheme
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Chief Minister Self-Employment Scheme is creating new employment opportunities for rural youth. Rahul Gusain, a resident of Kevars village in Pauri Garhwal district, took advantage of this scheme to establish a dairy business. Today, he has not only become self-reliant but is also providing employment opportunities to others in the village and serving as an inspiration.
2. Journey from a small start to a large business
Rahul Gusain started his dairy business with a loan of ₹7 lakh under the scheme. Initially, he began with 5 cows and gradually expanded through consistent hard work and support from various schemes. He purchased 2 additional cows through a Kisan Credit Card and added 4 more cows under the Chief Minister State Livestock Mission Scheme. Currently, he owns a total of 24 cows of Jersey, Sahiwal, Gir, Badri, and HF (Holstein Friesian) breeds.
3. Better production and strong market system
At present, Rahul produces around 150 to 170 liters of milk daily. Out of this, 32 to 40 liters are supplied to the “Prayas” self-help group under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), about 50 liters to Aanchal Dairy, and the remaining 70 to 80 liters are sold to local consumers. Due to the quality and regular supply of milk, his products are in high demand in the market.
4. Improved financial condition through increased income
From milk sales, Rahul earns approximately ₹80,000 to ₹90,000 per month, with a net profit of about ₹45,000 to ₹50,000. This income has strengthened his family’s financial condition. He is now planning to further expand his dairy business to create additional sources of income in the future.
5. Benefits of technical support and government guidance
According to Rahul, the Chief Minister Self-Employment Scheme provided crucial assistance in starting his business. He mentioned that he continuously receives technical support from the Animal Husbandry Department, including animal health check-ups, vaccination, and guidance on feed. This support has played a key role in making his business sustainable and profitable.
6. Growth of the livestock sector through administrative support
Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Vishal Sharma stated that the department is promoting animal husbandry through self-employment schemes. Under the guidance of District Magistrate Swati S. Bhadauria, benefits of these schemes are being effectively delivered to livestock farmers. The department provides regular health check-ups, vaccination, artificial insemination, and information on balanced nutrition, leading to a steady increase in milk production.
